How do I become a member of Rotary ?First, one should have a desire to represent themselves and their organization well by contributing back to the local community. Then, contact a club member and request an opportunity to visit. You will be assigned a seasoned member to guide you through the process of becoming a member. It is a simple process and provides a great opportunity to learn more about the community and to feel accomplished in giving back. Back to Top
Simply stated, What is the Rotary Code ?There are no secret handshakes or any none stated codes. The best way to describe the type of people who become Rotarians is to read the 4 Way Test. It is as follows:
For The Things They Think, Say or Do 1. Is it the TRUTH? 2. Is it FAIR to all concerned? 3. Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS? 4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?

Why is attendance emphasized so strongly ?Attendance is critical to members because of the amount of work to accomplish and the lack of time available. If we can set aside a few minutes each week and all participate, we can accomplish significant things without being too imposing on one or a few members.
Secondly, we are a group of professional business people who are successful for, among other reasons, our dedication to a cause and unwillingness to approach our responsibilities in a lax manner.
Finally, we are human and realize uncontrolled events sometimes interfere with our attendance. For these times we permit makeup at other Rotary Clubs (See Question "Where can I find a list of local Rotary Clubs ?") and on the Internet at E-Club One. Back to Top

What is PolioPlus ?In 1985, Rotary made a historic commitment to immunize all of the world's children against polio. Working in partnership with nongovernmental organizations and national governments thorough its PolioPlus program, Rotary is the largest private-sector contributor to the global polio eradication campaign. Rotarians have mobilized hundreds of thousands of PolioPlus volunteers and have immunized more than one billion children worldwide. By the 2005 target date for certification of a polio-free world, Rotary will have contributed half a billion dollars to the cause. Back to Top
When are your meetings ?The Knoxville Volunteer Rotary meets every Friday at 12:00 noon and at the
Knoxville Marriott Hotel (click link a lunch meeting with a flat $11 cost for meals that are exceptional as measured by the better restaurants in Knoxville. What is Rotary International ?Rotary is an organization of business and professional leaders united worldwide who provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and help build goodwill and peace in the world. In more than 160 countries worldwide, approximately 1.2 million Rotarians belong to more than 30,000 Rotary clubs.
Rotary club membership represents a cross-section of the community's business and professional men and women. The world's Rotary clubs meet weekly and are nonpolitical, nonreligious, and open to all cultures, races, and creeds.
The main objective of Rotary is service — in the community, in the workplace, and throughout the world. Rotarians develop community service projects that address many of today's most critical issues, such as children at risk, poverty and hunger, the environment, illiteracy, and violence. They also support programs for youth, educational opportunities and international exchanges for students, teachers, and other professionals, and vocational and career development.
